Most ads flop.
Not because people hate ads.
Not because you’re selling the wrong thing.
But because you're breaking the golden rule of marketing: WIIFM
In the next few minutes, I’ll show you how these 5 letters can fix your ads, boost your sales, and make your competition wonder what the hell happened.
Let’s roll.
Why Most Ads Fail Miserably
Bad ads all have one thing in common:
They talk at people, not to them.
You’ve seen it before:
“We are committed to excellence.”
“Our product is the best.”
“We’ve been in business since dinosaurs roamed the earth.”
“Buy now!”
It’s all me, me, me.
Here’s the harsh truth:
Nobody cares about you.
They care about themselves.
The only thing running through their mind when they see your ad is:
W I I F M — What’s In It For Me?
If you don’t answer that question fast, they’re gone.
Sell the Hole, Not the Drill
There’s a classic saying in sales:
“Sell the hole, not the drill.”
Translation: People don’t care about your fancy features.
They care about what your product does for them.
I learned this the hard way years ago when I was buying a laptop.
The guy at the store went on a full TED Talk about gigabytes, RAM, processors...
Meanwhile, I’m standing there thinking:
"Brother, I just want something that won’t crash when I open 6 tabs."
He was selling features.
He should’ve been selling outcomes.
How to Flip the Script
Before you try to sell anything, stop and ask:
What does this person actually want?
How can my product help them get it?
Speak to their goals. Their problems. Their desires.
Not your product specs.
Even the first sentence they see — your headline — needs to scream:
"Here’s why this matters to YOU."
Otherwise, you lost them before you even got started.
